4th December 2018 - MATTERS OF VINYL IMPORTANCE PRESENTS AN EVENING WITH WILL ASHON Discussing his latest book. “CHAMBER MUSIC About The WU-TANG (in 36 chambers pieces)”, 4th December 2018 163 Hoxton Street London N1 6PJ

On November 9, 1993 the Wu Tang Clan released their debut album ‘Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)’

With its raw underground sound Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) is widely regarded as one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time.

Serving as a landmark release in the era of hip hop known as the East Coast Renaissance, its influence helped lead the way for several other East Coast hip hop artists, including NasThe Notorious B.I.G.Mobb Deep, and Jay-Z.

Twenty-five years later the complexity, range, humour, musicality, power and reach of Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) continues to electrify music fans everywhere.

Therefore it is with great pleasure that Matters Of Vinyl Importance invites you to an evening with author Will Ashon discussing his latest book “CHAMBER MUSIC About The WU-TANG (in 36 chambers pieces)”,

Chronicling the roots of this extraordinary album, from the history of jazz to social housing, from fashion to politics, from crack to the FBI, from Hong Kong martial arts movies to racism, race and a confused USA,

Chamber Music ranges from provocative essays to semi-comic skits, from deep scholarly analysis to satirical celebration, seeking to contextualise, reveal and honour this singularly composite work of art.

Chamber Music” is the explosive and revelatory story of our world in 1993 and today.

Will Ashon is the author of Strange Labyrinth: Outlaws, Poets, Mystics, Murderers and a Coward in London’s Great Forest (Granta, 2017) and two novels. He previously ran BIG DADA records where his artists included Roots Manuva, MF DOOM, Kate Tempest and Diplo
