About Pamela Des Barres, I’m With The Band.
Warm, witty and brutally honest, I’m With The Band by Pamela Des Barres stands out as a feminist classic. First published in 1987, I’m With The Band pre-empted books by Patti Smith, Carrie Brownstein, Viv Albertine and Kim Gordon, and went on to be declared as one of Rolling Stone’s twenty greatest books about music. Now revised and updated by Pamela, it’s a rare perspective on rock ‘n’ roll through the female gaze. An ordained minister, Pamela now teaches women’s writing workshops in Los Angeles and across the US.
Pamela was a regular on Sunset Strip where she knocked on artists’ dressing rooms and immersed herself in the drugs, danger and ecstasy of the 1960s music business. Over the next 10 years she had very public love affairs with icons including Mick Jagger, Jimmy Page, Keith Moon and Jim Morrison, and as a member of the GTO's - a girl group masterminded by Frank Zappa - she was at the centre of one of the most exciting times in modern music history.
